Novena to the Sacred Heart

The Feast of Corpus Christi, tomorrow, is a good day to start the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Feast of The Sacred Heart is celebrated on the Friday after the second Sunday after Pentecost.

If you want to join me in prayer and unite yourself with all those praying to the Sacred Heart, please use the Prayers below which were a daily prayer of St Pio of Pietrelcina. Although there are a number of prayers that can be said, these are those attributed to St Margaret Mary to whom the devotion to the Sacred Heart was explained when Jesus appeared to her on many occasions.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender Mother and ours.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope.

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.

Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Pray for us O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.

Amen.

— St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
